Birdwhatching Ilhabela

Birdwatching ou birdwatching  is a tourist activity that has been growing in Ilhabela. As it is an archipelago, its fauna and flora have specific characteristics in relation to its composition and geographical distribution: in Ilhabela it is possible to easily see several species of forest and also sea and migratory birds, totaling more than 300 species.

Reconhecido como Núcleo da Reserva da Biosfera da Mata Atlântica pela UNESCO e considerado pela Birdlife Internationalcomo Important Bird Site for Priority Conservation, Ilhabela State Park has ideal trails for bird watching. There is no need to go to distant places or take long walks to observe the island's birdlife.

The proximity of the Park to the municipality makes these animals frequent the urban area, and on easily accessible trails it is possible to observe species such as the endangered jacutinga (Aburria jacutinga), the macuco (Tinamus solitarius), sticks and hundreds of other beautiful and colorful tropical birds.

On the beaches and islets of the archipelago, seabirds can be observed, from the most common on the coast, such as frigatebirds (Fregatta magnificens) and boobies (Sula leucogaster), to species that come from the northern hemisphere such as the terns. red sandpiper (Sterna hirundinacea) and the spotted sandpiper (Actitis macularius)

Environmental Monitors (accredited by the Ilhabela State Park and City Hall) are practitioners and are increasingly specialized in guiding bird watchers.

With 92% of the territory covered by Atlantic Forest, the island is a paradise for those who enjoy watching birds - there are 300 species of sea and migratory birds. The Ilhabela Ecotourism Center   indicates guides, who assemble the itineraries according to the types of birds expected to be found. One of the paths is the White Water Waterfall trail
